IAA 2011: C-X16 Production Concept is “The Future of Jaguar Sports Cars”

Jaguar is so far under-performing, recording a 27% sales drop in the first quarter of the year. Indian owner Tata Motors is determined though to turn its fortunes around by investing US$2.5 billion annually for the next five years in the British luxury carmaker and its Land Rover stable mate in order to develop 40 new models and variants.

A spiritual successor to the legendary E-Type is certainly a good start: a modern sports coupe along with a roadster variant boasting compact dimensions and 21st century design and driving dynamics. This is exactly Jaguar’s main attraction at the 64th Frankfurt Motor Show: the C-X16 “production concept”, as the study is officially named, clearly pointing at a road-going model.

Jaguar Releases First Running Footage of its Hardcore XKR-S Sports Coupe

According to Jaguar, the new XKR-S is the most powerful and fastest mass production sports car the company has ever built. The hardest-looking version of the XK series gets an uprated supercharged V8 direct-injection engine churning out 550-ponies and 680Nm of torque, good enough to propel the sports coupe from 0 to 60 (96km/h) in 4.2 seconds and on to a top speed of 186mph (300km/h).

Following last week’s reveal at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, the Indian-owned British carmaker released the first footage of the sports coupe being put through its paces on the road as well as on the track. Unfortunately, Jaguar also covered the supercharged V8 engine’s howls with some annoying music beats… Watch the video for yourself right after the break.

Video of Bertone's B99 Baby Jaguar Concept for a BMW 3-Series Rival

One of the most talked about prototype models at this year's edition of the Geneva Motor Show is Bertone's concept for an entry-level Jaguar sports sedan called the B99. While the British automaker has turned a new page with the designs of its latest XF and XJ saloons, Bertone proposes a modernized version of the classic Jaguar three-box saloon. For some it works fine, for others it's an unnecessary throwback to old times. Watch the video after the break and tell us what you think in the comments section below.

2010 Jaguar XJ Teaser Film No5: The Interior

We can't blame you if you've lost interest in Jaguar's teaser videos on the upcoming 2010 XJ as the British firm hasn't really revealed anything interesting on its new luxury sedan in any of the films. Watch the video after the jump and stay tuned on autoscardesign as Jag's flagship model will be officially launched on Thursday, July 9.

Jaguar Publishes New Teaser Video of 2010 XJ Sedan

If you're willing to throw away about a minute or so of your time, then be my guest to skip the jump and watch Jaguar's new teaser video on the upcoming XJ luxury sedan. In the third promo film, Jaguar's Technical Specialist for Audio Systems, Matt Jones talks about the new XJ's Bowers & Wilkins audio system. It's even more boring than it sounds (sic) so don't say that we didn't warn you. For something a bit more interesting on the new Jag click here for our previous (spy shot) story on the 2010 XJ that's due to make its public premiere during the second week of July.

VIDEO: Jaguar's Ian Callum Talks About New 2010 XJ Sedan Design

In early July, Jaguar will lift the covers off its Mercedes-Benz S-Class rivaling, 2010 XJ luxury sedan, ahead of the car's market debut at the end of the year. Following the release of a set of teaser photos at the Shanghai Auto Show in April, Jaguar has now published a short video interview with the British firm's design chief, Ian Callum who talks about the design philosophy behind the new XJ. Among other things, Callum claims that with the new XJ sedan, Jag's design team "took 30 years of learning and put it into something that is very complete." Video: Jaguar's BMW M5 Rival, the new 2010 XFR V8 with 510HP

The XF we've all been waiting for, the new supercharged XFR, was finally revealed at this week's Detroit Show. Fitted with Jag's new direct-injection 5.0-liter V8 and a Roots-type supercharger, the 510-horsepower strong XFR goes from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.9 seconds, or 0.2 and 0.4 seconds slower than its arch rivals, the BMW M5 and Audi RS6 respectively. If you hit the jump, you can watch the XFR in Jag's new promotional video. Unfortunately, for reasons that we fail to understand, Jaguar did not include any audiobites from the XFR's supercharged V8 engine, which is a pity as other than that, the film is overall entertaining.

Video: Jaguar XFR Prototype tops 225 mph at Bonneville Salt Flats

At the Detroit Show, Jaguar revealed a specially modified XFR prototype that recorded a top speed of 225.7 mph (363.2 km/h) during a secret speed trial at the iconic Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah last November. The XFR prototype beat Jaguar's previous speed record of 217.1mph (349.4 km/h) that had been set back in 1992 by the XJ220. The man behind the wheel of the fastest Jag ever was Paul Gentilozzi, owner of Rocketsports Racing who led the Jaguar XKR to five series victories between 2001 and 2006 in the Trans Am series in the USA.

Jaguar said that prototype model was equipped with a slightly more powerful version of the standard XFR's 5.0-liter V8 with additional horsepower being liberated by a remapped ECU, a modified air intake and exhaust system and revised supercharger settings. It was also fitted with minor aerodynamic and safety modifications that were made to meet the requirements for a Bonneville run. According to the British automaker, no internal engine components were changed and the six-speed automatic transmission was standard, including the gear ratios.

Video: Jaguar XF-R Spied in Death Valley

Jaguar’s forthcoming XF-R that is aimed squarely at the BMW M5, Audi RS6 and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG has been caught on film by AMS undergoing hot-weather testing in the infamous Death Valley in the southwestern United States. Expected to be introduced in early 2009, the top-of-the-line XF will boast a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine with direct injection delivering at least 500 horsepower that should roecket the Xf-R from zero to 100 km/h (62mph) in under five seconds. -Follow the jump for the video
